WIKIPEDIA ON THE RUN

USE GOOGLE CHROME TO VIEW THE OFFLINE WIKIPEDIA FILES

We all know Wikipedia as the site any one can run to for fast information anytime it is needed.
Science, Arts, Politics or Medicine Wikipedia can offer a helping hand for you.
We note however,  that in most cases this requires a steady internet connection of which some of us may not afford every time.
So there is the option of Wikipedia offline version which you can download and save to any of your gadgets and access anytime anywhere.
I personally have benefited from this  especially whenever am in places where the internet connection is bad and I need some little knowledge about something very fast.
You can carry the offline Wikipedia files on your PC and even smartphone.  However,  the files are usually heavy to download and may sometimes consume larges chunks of space on the hard disk or SD card(memory card).
If you can afford,  the better.  Or you can ask a friend who could already have it downloaded.
The file(which is a .zim)   file also needs an application to read it. The best option in this case is kiwix.
This software is freely and easily obtainable by users of windows and android.
Individuals using Linux will always tend  to meet hardships with these files.
But no need to worry,  we have a simpler method which will save space and time. And yes,  it can work for anyone with google chrome browser. Its the chrome extension;Kiwixoffline.
I am going to give the steps a great clarity so that you get it up and running.

 Download the Kiwix Extension.
You will need the Google Chrome browser and if you do not have it, you can download it HERE .Downloading the extension can be done from the chrome web store and it will require internet connection obviously.
You can do that via the route provided below.
Download the extension here.
After that is done, it will be time for us to get our offline pages working.

OBTAIN OR DOWNLOAD THE WIKIPEDIA OFFLINE PAGES.
The files usually tend to be so heavy to easily download them from the internet. It is always easier updating them after obtaining them than primarily downloading the whole file. But if you have a good and reliable internet connection, you can go on and download the offline pages from then website.
If you are getting this because of reasons of poor connectivity, then downloading the file will not work out for you and you will need to obtain the files from someone who already has them and you can just update them.

 OPENING AND USING THE FILES.
After you have gone through the above steps, it is now time to use the KiwixOffline extension hoping that all the above steps were successful.
On installing the extension in google chrome browser, the icon for the extension will be in the right upper section of your browser.
Tap the Icon to open the functions of the extension.
It will always open in a new tab or depending on your browser settings.
There will be a section of choosing files. You click on it to open file locations where you locate the downloaded .zim file for offline Wikipedia. After locating it, it will open easily as long as you have gone through the above pages.

  4. Hi, is there a way to choose a default .zim to open every time or do you have to do it every single time you open kiwix ?
